Meade, Author, Teacher, Succumbs at 70 LYNCHBURG (AP) Dr. Robert Douthat Meade, historian, author and chairman emeritus of the department of history at Randolph-Macon Woman's College, died Saturday at the age of 70. A 1924 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Mr.

Meade received his master's degree from the University of Virginia and his doctorate at the University of Chicago. He taught at Virginia Episcopal School, Vanderbilt, U.Va. and the University of North Carolina before joining the Randolph-Macon faculty as associate professor of history in 1936. Mr. Meade, the first to occupy the Theodore Henley Jack Chair of History at RandolphMacon, retired in 1971.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, two sisters and a grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted today in Lynchburg and burial will be in Warrenton, N. C.
