If it was a room, I’d understand. If it was more than an hour, I’d ask for a room to refresh in until it’s ready.

But as I globalist, who often uses 4pm checkout, I know that benefit can’t be offered in a suite to the prior guest and have the room ready in an hour for me. The housekeeping staff aren’t just waiting idly by.

To be fair, there wasn't any recovery options given to me, was told you just have a drink and wait for an hour. The kept complaining part after was because when I was eating, the duty manager, later the items I ordered and commented that it wasn't much before saying it was going to be fine being comped. Good to know the folks here are the kindest on the earth and would have just waited another hour without complaint, I'll consider it next time then.

Don't you know who I am! This is why Japanese increasingly are exhausted with foreigners and their rude behavior. Firm but nice to me is code for I was a blustery jerk about it (telling the hotel I'm getting free dinner deal with it is insane to me and beyond the pale). I'd be irritated and upset if my room was several hours late but it's not like there was human waste on the wall of the room, bed bugs all over the room, you didn't get to check until 1am... etc. Sorry but the entire thing takes a legitimate service issue and makes it reek of over entitled behavior.

I've had major service issues at hotels before (real issues, not my room was a few hours late) and I've never TOLD the hotel I was eating dinner and it's going to be free or, frankly, even what service recovery I expect. Good hotels will handle it right and bad hotels won't ever see a dime from me again and will get excoriated online, then I will deal with a request for recovery with Hyatt corporate.

A better way would have been to take the drink, order what you wanted and probably seen the charges wiped for kindly waiting.

Waiting sucks but at least in Japan they're probably actually cleaning the suite.

I was sitting on the express train from Narita and there was an Australian man talking VERY LOUDLY on a SPEAKERPHONE on the train, freaking out because he had left his passport in a hotel safe and had forgotten it there so he was coming back to Tokyo to get it. He was on the phone with the front desk staff and INSISTED the staff member go look at his room safe right now, while he waited on hold. No wonder foreigners get a bad reputation in Japan. Of course the hotel staff would not say anything bad to this customer (but they will definitely think it), who was insisting on things that were unreasonable (we were still quite a ways from Tokyo, so there's literally no reason to demand the front desk staff leave his post to search his room right away while he is on hold), and it's particularly absurd given that imposing on hotel staff like this when it was his fault he left his passport in the safe in the first place (not to mention the absurdity of going to those lengths to protect his passport IN JAPAN, where the likelihood someone will steal his passport is about as close to zero as it could be anywhere on the planet). He clearly didn't get the memo that not only do Japanese people not talk on the phone loudly they almost never talk on the phone on the train at all, much less shout on the phone with the speakerphone turned up so loudly everyone could hear what the harried front desk staff was saying (very politely, in English).

But that's not why I came to this thread Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo- REVIEW - MASTER THREAD - FlyerTalk Forums (12)

We are staying here at the Hyatt Centric Ginza and I have to say, we're very pleasantly surprised. It's a cut above most Hyatt Centrics worldwide - in my view. Very warm, pleasant, funky decor, we didn't get an upgrade as Globalists but it's a holiday weekend in peak tourist season so that wasn't surprising. Still got a very nice 8th floor king with a nice view. Love all the little touches everywhere, in the room itself and in the lobby and restaurant. Staff unfailingly kind and welcoming. Felt more upscale than most Centrics I've stayed at. Excellent value. Breakfast also next level good.

You're also making an assumption that they would comp you, I rather tell them what I want for not being able to check-in at least 3 hours late on a reservation, especially at this price point. Each interaction is different, I've stayed at enough hotels to know when the customer service is a notch above and to make the assumption that they would just do something for me later. There the wasn't that vibe at all here, i got that vibe at park Hyatt Tokyo last 2 times that I stayed here but definitely not here at check in. And it's not like I was having an argument with them, I just told them I was getting dinner in their restaurant and tell the manager they should cover the cost and headed to the restaurant. The duty manager said they weren't sure they could do that, I told them to talk to the manager and went to dinner. Nobody went around declaring that I'm as Globalist and they should give me dinner...lol... I told them the service recovery that I wanted, instead of hoping they read my mind or hoping they do something or assuming that they will. To be fair, if they didn't do anything for me at the end, I would have asked for a prorated refund for the first night of whatever time after check-in I got into the room anyway at checkout, which is a fair ask for any hotel. Nothing wrong with this place at all, I really enjoyed my stay and will probably stay here again because the location just works out better for me than PH or HR. After my week long stay, I did online checkout and handed my keys to the front desk and as I was getting on the elevator, the manager chased me down to apologize about the late check-in, that was the only other interaction I had with the staff after check-in.

Breakfast is a really nice spread, not the best in Tokyo but it was decent. The refillable water bottles are annoying, I just prefer bottled water because I don't know how often the filter is changed in the machines or how clean they keep it.

If you did not get your check-in time, you would have asked for a pro-rate of the first night's rate???? And you would say that is "to be fair" and a "fair ask for any hotel"???? IMHO, that's even more over the top than your asking for a comp of dinner.

I'm going to have to disagree on this one, if check in is 3pm and they don't have a room for you at that time of check in and is 3 hours delayed, you damn right I'm going to ask for a proration of 3 hours. Just like a hotel that wants to charge extra for early check in and late check out. My room is supposed to be ready by 3pm, if it's about 1 hour or less, I wouldn't ask but for 3 hours, I definitely am, at a Hyatt or even a Comfort Inn. If you want to be a sucker and just wait sure but asking for compensation for a hotel not having a room ready in time isn't over the top. You don't need to kiss the Hyatt ring, they will drop you like a stone the minute you don't pay the bill.

Good luck with that...

And, I suppose that, if you were a WoH Globalist and using your entitled 4pm late checkout benefit, you would be willing to vacate the room ahead of time, so that the next guest can have the room by the 3:00pm check in time?

If I were a hotel, I'd throw a guest out who ate a meal demanding it as compensation without pre-approval. OP has really bonkers entitlement.

One can say I'd like a free meal while waiting but demanding it and starting to order and eat before approval is over the top unacceptable

So is saying that you'd expect and demand a pro rated refund for 3 hours past check in (which I'm positive doesn't equate to paying a pro rated added fee to hotel when they let you check in early or stay after a stated check out time).

Certainly my experiences at the centric Ginza have been solid and I've never had any issues with service. We've already covered the apparently universal disagreement with the OP on this issue but I guess that means we're all just kissing the ring or bending the knee or whatever medieval reference.

How are they even equivalent. 4pm check out is a Globalist benefit, if not a benefit, a hotel charges for late check out. Paying for a room and having 3pm check in is normal and a hotel should have a room ready by 3pm or expect to compensate. So you have a false equivalency and can't compare the two.

ok, you caught me, I was fighting with them to get my $50 meal....lol... I should have just sat in the lobby and let me kid run terror on them or go to the restaurant and pray that I get comped cause they can read my mind and every hotel has such good service, of course they will do it without asking.
